Honestly, WMMA needs Pena to win this fight and I hope she does.
I don't know. Relative to making money, I love chaos, because interesting stories move the meter. There was never a Serena-Sharapova "rivalry", but Serena was a draw because she's Serena, and Maria was a draw because she had a big mouth. That works, especially in individual sports.

On the one hand, a Peņa win consolidates her first victory and erases the argument of those still calling it a fluke. But if Nunes wins in the 3rd round or later, now that sets up the sport for a potentially epic trilogy.

"Grapplefuck" for the win, though. Love that term!

No pre-fight chatter from the crew? I didn't realize Amanda was such a heavy favorite.

It has to be respected that Nunes will probably win the first round. She's faster, stronger and more dynamically skilled when she's fresh. Many top fighters (Tate, Rousey, Holm, Cyborg) couldn't make it out of the first round against Nunes.

She also made, in hindsight, a tactical error in the first fight by engaging Pena on the ground and fatiguing herself with high energy, hard punches.

That's something that's on her to fix.

I expect Nunes to employ a more pop-shot, point-fighting gameplan to be more efficient with her energy. If she knocks Pena down early again, I just expect her to demand that Pena gets up again. Pena could get rocked and put away early or rocked and submitted like Tate or Megan Anderson, Sarah McMann.

If Pena can make it into round 2, she'll already be doing well and her chances go up from there.

If you stop the video around 1:15 and compare the 2 women; Nunes's face is wearing the signs of another rough diet and weight cut. Her face looks gaunt and dry skin, flat hair, whereas Pena is looking brighter-eyed, healthy and vibrant.

Again, Pena the far more efficient trash talker; gets in the last word, last verbal jab. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nunes gas herself out again and Pena take over the fight in round 2/3 just like the first time. But if Nunes connects hard she can finish the fight early.

Vegas odds has Nunes as the favorite, but I think Peņa would be a solid bet.

Default Re: Julianna Pena

So the fight is in the books and Amanda Nunes has regained the 135-pound title with a dominant five round decision victory.

Pena got dropped multiple times in rounds 1 and 2 and in hindsight, Nunes probably did more damage and unsettled Pena too much in those rounds for her to ever really "get going" in the fight. Those shots to the ear and temples are hard to recover from, they take away your equilibrium and balance. Pena looked a lot more sloppy in the stand up, jab not as effective this time.

As expected, Nunes was a lot more efficient with her energy, looking to counter Pena as she came forward.

She corrected some tactical mistakes she made in the first fight. It's often the case that the fighter with more skill and better physical attributes will benefit more from a well-crafted gameplan.

To Julianna's credit, she showed a lot of heart, did some damage to Nunes's face and was close to getting an arm bar at one point. She has proven to be Nunes's most worthy adversary during her title run not named Shevchenko.

Default Which UFC or MMA fighter would you session?

For me I would wrestle Juliana Peņa or maybe Valentina Shevchenko and I would get my ass beaten and choked out. Who would you choose?
