Article title: I regret doing OnlyFans when I turned 18. My subscribers pushed my boundaries, sent degrading messages, and treated me like an object.

she thought OF was supposed to be empowering (I'm sure she saw the gazillion IG posts where all her friends say "YASSSS QUEEN, get that bag"), didn't seem so bad because it wasn't far off from the bikini pics she was already posting for free on IG. she joins, sees guys slowly push her boundaries more and more, gets depressed, spends most of the money she makes masking her depression, pushes her friends/family away, her life begins to revolve around making content, she travels specifically to make content, eventually contemplates suicide and quits OF. Many such stories.
That's typical of online content producers, period. But, some people will assume this is a problem unique only to OnlyFans because they hate sex workers.

EDIT: ...such as what OP is saying about them in this thread, holy shit.

The stories I've heard of women who film porn is far worse. They sign a contract, then they get fucked by 500 guys on camera. They get sore, but they're pressured into continuing. The film makers try to squeeze as much out of the actress as they can.

Maybe it's not always like that, but there are stories about how awful it is to be a new porn star.

Only fans, even with ladies having regrets, isn't as bad.

Pornhub used to be terrible, because a guy might get his girlfriend in college to agree to be filmed, then upload that film onto Pornhub and tell all his friends. Women's lives were ruined on Pornhub due to unfriendly uploads and there was a lawsuit and Pornhub makes it much easier to take down videos now, even if you're not the person who uploaded it.

And I love porn. I love women who do porn on their own terms. But there's a lot of nightmare stories out there, and I object to that. I'll pretty much only pay for content if I know about the producer and don't think they're doing anything shady. Given my fetish for wrestling and domination, it's not hard to pick and choose what I pay for with that criteria.

Sounds like every job I've been a part of, getting figuratively fucked instead of literally. It's the nature of employment and contracts. Once you remove the sex from the sex work, what sex workers experience isn't much different from what the rest of us experience.

Granted, we *shouldn't* have to experience that either but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I don't know what kind of jobs you've been working, but I've never been pressured to ignore significant physical discomfort at work. I mean, maybe Amazon where you get limited bathroom breaks and are expected to be on your feet nearly all the time, but even so, I think the experience of first time porn stars is worse than amazon workers, and amazon has a reputation of being especially bad.

I'm not saying jobs have to be fun, but there's a difference between signing up for something and being abused and getting a job and being asked to work hard or stay late.

If you have an example of "figurative fucking" as bad as you imply, please share it.

There have been many times were I had to work sick or sleepy or in terrible and dangerous weather conditions. Even after I had been able to accrue enough social capital where I can tell people "fuck off, I ain't doing that right now" without immediate consequences, I still get some push-back for it. If you've never encountered this once in your vocational life, then, you're a very, very tiny minority.

It seems to me that you seem to think that some kinds of abuse are okay just so long that it isn't sexual abuse.

I've worked when exhausted. I've worked very hard jobs when I did part time moving work, and when I was caring for my mother, sometimes up until 3:00 AM trying to get her to bed, I was absolutely exhausted.

But I think signing up for a porn shoot and being fucked 50 times is worse. That's the kind of memory that sticks with you, while working while exhausted sucks, it's something you can be proud of later. I don't bear any scars for all my hard work.

So yes, I absolutely think it is a different type of abuse. I'm not saying everyone who does porn gets that kind of treatment, but those that do, I have a lot of sympathy for them. That's a terrible thing to go through for one mistake and not knowing what they signed up for and many sign up for it because they need money.

I'm not saying the person in the original article went through this. Her story is a little different. I was talking about nightmare stories I've heard of women the first time they sign up to shoot a porn video.

Glad to see this MOSTLY being a nuanced conversation on the ethics of porn and content production and not just "sex workers = bad".

My take is that it's a field of work that's absolutely not for everyone but there's a culture around that suggests it IS for everyone. The people pleasing types get sucked into it the most and end up taken advantage of and coerced into doing things they don't really want to do because of their financial situation.

I know many people who have had fulfilling sex work careers both online and irl and they've all said it's definitely not something you should just be suggesting to other people as a get rich quick scheme - that's where the internet has failed us.

OF as a whole is WAYYYY less damaging than industrialised porn but it does open up a whole new can of worms on ease of access and also preying on porn addicts on a more personal level

Just to make a counterpoint to this post, and most of things have already been said.

The 18 year old in the original post has regrets. She also made easy money for a while, so it's not the worst story in the world.

I'm posting this video as the other side of the coin. Some women have had success with their decisions to enter fantasy work. What Ceara does with her clients isn't my cup of tea, but some men enjoy it and she doesn't seem to have a lot of regrets.

Megan Jones interview with Jennifer Thomas had a similar vibe. Megan was clearly happy about some of the men she's met as clients. Lawyers and politicians that she likely wouldn't have met if she hadn't been an attractive wrestler. That's not to say all clients are good. Megan also talked about a bad client during that interview, but overall, she seemed to have an appreciation for many of her clients, not a disgust - which is a point sometimes made. Megan is likewise, a counter-argument to the claim that session wrestlers don't like their clients. Some probably do, but Megan seems genuinely happy to have met some of her clients. Kind of a sidebar, but I wanted to mention it.

But . . . anyway, this is the Ceara video that somebody posted elsewhere on this forum, that I'm copying here because I think it's a good example of the opposite outcome. It's not always a negative experience, and I personally have a respect and gratitude for women who will grant a man his fantasies, even if it's a bit expensive for most of us.

I'm sure most will know how to find, or have already seen the Megan Jones interview on sessiongirls, so I won't dig up that one.

Megan is probably not the counterpoint to make about session wrestlers who like their clients, lol.

What do you know that I don't?

I've never met her, but she spoke highly about all the people she's gotten to meet as a wrestler in her interview.
