Default Re: How did sessions change you?

There is a lot of discussion about strength in this. I agree with the previous poster who said that it is skill that matters. I have definitely been pinned by girls who I know are weaker than me.

This topic is about first sessions and almost by definition a session wrestler is not going to be untrained. She is going to have some skill, although that skill range can vary tremendously from a basically fit strong girl who has been shown some scissor holds, to girls who are black belts in BJJ and have represented their country in international competitions. I would suggest that almost regardless of strength an untrained guy is unlikely to do well against the latter.

Fitness also matters. Session wrestlers are often much fitter than the guys they are fighting. The guy might start out stronger but he soon tires and can quickly end up weaker than the session wrestler. Wrestling requires a different type of fitness - anaerobic rather than aerobic so even a guy who does some running may not have the right sort of fitness.

Let's face it most of the guys you see getting beaten are office or shop workers who probably aren't all that strong or all that fit. In the western world that covers a lot of guys.

There has not been much discussion about psychological aspects. In the very first session a guy often thinks that he can win. When he gets pinned he will often struggle like mad because he doesn't want to admit that he has lost to a woman. A skilled session wrestler will often use this to her advantage. She may know that she has a good strong pin that he is not likely to escape and will taunt the guy to make him struggle even more. Typically he eventually gives in and admits that he cannot escape but only after he has exhausted himself trying.

They then face off again.

In the next pin, the session wrestler has two big advantages. The guy is tired from all that useless struggling, and she no longer has to overcome his belief that a woman cannot beat him. She still needs to be wary, as the guy may be out to prove that his first loss was just a fluke.

However, more often than not, the guy will get pinned again. In the case of an untrained guy it may often be with exactly the same pin that she used the first time. This has the advantage for her, that if the guy knows that he could not escape the pin the first time, then he knows that he is not likely to be able escape the second time and is more likely to give in earlier.

After all that useless struggling in the first pin, he doesn't have the energy left to struggle as effectively or as long in the second pin.

He also often doesn't have the will to struggle so much. His male ego has already been crushed by being forced to admit in the first pin that a woman can beat him. As he does not have that much ego left, it is easier for her to crush what remains of it and get him to the point where he admits to himself and then to her that he has been pinned by a woman a second time.

He thought that it was impossible for a woman to pin him, but that has already happened, so it must be possible. Once he has been forced to acknowledge that it is possible for this woman to pin him, it is easier for him to accept that it is possible for her to do it again.

He is probably coming to appreciate the skillful way that she has pinned him.

There might be a bit of residual trying to prove that the first pin or submission was just a fluke the second time it happens and he might struggle a bit, but he will already be tired from the inneffective struggling during the first pin and when he realises that he cannot escape, he will tend to give in earlier rather than struggle on.

I think this is why in many sessions, you will often find see the man and woman struggling for 5 minutes before the first pin, then the next pin happens in 3 minutes, and the next in 2 minutes, and by the time 15 minutes have passed the guy has already been forced to submit 5 times, and after that the session wrestler is just playing with him. I have certainly lost 15-0 to some of the more skilled session wrestlers.

There are other psychological aspects. The guy may feel that he shouldn't be wrestling with the 'weaker' sex and may not go in seriously the first time. That is potentially one of the reasons why guys lose the first pin. He let the girl get in too close, or let her get a grip that he might not have in a 'real' fight with a guy.

However, he is still likely to think that a guy should be able to escape from any pin that a girl places him in, and his ego will still be damaged by being pinned the first time.

It is particularly in this case that the guy will tend to try harder the second time to prove that the first pin was just a fluke. However, by that time he has already worn himself out by struggling in the first pin, and his ego is already damaged, so the session wrestler still has an advantage. The experienced session wrestler will probably know that she caught him off guard the first time, and will probably be ready for this.

The other psychological aspect is around the sexual overtones of any mixed wrestling match. Lets say a guy is caught in a head lock. His face is probably getting pulled into the side of the girl's breasts. There is therefore probably a certain internal debate in his mind about whether he should try to escape or just lie there and enjoy it. That gives the girl enough time to make the head lock secure, eg by grabbing her own wrist, scissoring his arm and getting her head will tucked in to avoid counters.

If the guy is caught in a school girl pin, then his head is trapped between her thighs and he is up close and personal with her crotch. This very much emphasises that he has been beaten by a woman, and any guy who is even a little bit submissive is going to feel dominated in this position. She can also use her weight to wear him down.

If the guy is caught in a 69 head scissors then again his head is trapped between her thighs and he is facing her ass which has sexual overtones. So again the confusion in his mind is likely to delay his response long enough for her to get her ankles crossed to lock on the scissor. He is also likely to feel somewhat dominated.

If the guy is caught in a grapevine, then again the woman is on top, she has his legs trapped, and his arms stretched out. She is in a dominant position with her breasts just over his face, and potentially in his face. In my experience a reasonably experienced and strong guy should be able to break her grip on his wrists but if she locks his face into her cleavage then he won't be able to escape even with two free arms. Being beaten like this is likely to leave the guy feeling submissive, and he is very unlikely to be much of a problem after this.

Similarly, if a guy is pinned with a forward or reverse face sit then his ego is not just crushed but decimated. He is likely to be the play thing of the session wrestler after that.

A final psychological aspect is the unusual techniques that a lady is likely to use. As one previous poster mentioned, guys are likely to fight with their arms and upper body. As we all know ladies tend to use their legs, in particular scissor holds. In his very first session, a guy may not even know about leg scissors or even if he has watched a few videos he still may never have experienced a scissor hold before. When a guy first gets caught in a scissor hold, even if it is only a body scissor that he might be able to resist, he will often panic, and give in, just because he is not sure how much damage she can do in this hold. Of course, some session wrestlers do have very strong legs!
