Default what muscles are used in the grapevine

Hi, I was just curious about which muscles are most used to aplpy the grapevine. The glutes / hamstrings? And what gym exercises should a woman do to able to do a strong grapevine? For example - deadlift, hipthrust, squat?

Quads and secondarily Glutes. The Tibialis Anterior is used to hook the foot around your opponents leg to get a lock in. Leg extension machine is the best for Quads. For glutes you can do either hip thrusts or glute bridges. Both are equally effective.

A gifted gal (higher test than normal, Muscles with a higher number of muscle fibers than average, and a high degree of innervation) that trains hard will have a grapevine that will make you feel like she's pulling your legs out of their sockets.

Thx for the video clips. Many girls are lifting so damn heavy on the hip thrust. Now I know what they are training for :-D

For a powerful grapevine, I'd imagine the woman to be on the taller side (5'7 or more), flexible, and strong in the hips and glutes.

Squats and deadlifts are great all around exercises in developing the lower body, but for a more targeted exercise, I'd say that the hip abductor exercise is pretty important. They have the machines in every gym, and many women use it. A lot are able to go pretty heavy on it. The motion of the exercise is very similar to applying the grapevine, so I find the exercise to be pretty sexy.

Yeah I think you're right. Quads and hammies lock you into the grapevine, but it's the abductors muscles that are really pulling you apart. From google: "The hip abductor muscles include the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and tensor fasciae latae (TFL). They not only move the leg away from the body, they also help rotate the leg at the hip joint."

Check out this gif of a woman I work out with not only maxing out the hip abduction at 260 lbs (almost 120 kg) for reps, but making it look downright easy. She's about 5"10 and could snap any of us like a wishbone. I also included a pic so you could see how hot she actually is. Any takers lol?

Wonderful. Have you tried to max out on the machine yourself? I suspect she could make a lot of guys scream and tap in a grapevine, you ever tried to wrestle her?

Have you wrestled her or had her apply holds on you?

I can’t budge it maxed out. I can knock out about 5 or 6 reps per set at around 100 which I feel is decent. Suffice it to say I would not be able to put up much resistance in a grapevine!

We have wrestled around a little… nothing too intense but she goes easy on me. She doesn’t know “holds” per se, but she naturally knows how to use her legs (as many women do) and has trapped me in her bodyscissor a couple of times. She doesn’t crank on the pressure because she doesn’t want to hurt me lol, but she’ll do just enough to let me know what she’s capable of and then she lets me go. Feel free to DM if you want more details or have questions, don’t want to hijack the thread.

Suede,

You are correct about the role of the gluteus medius in abduction of the leg. However, it is a misconception that the machine shown works the gluteus medius at all. While seated, the gluteus medius is in a very disadvantaged position. The gluteus maximus does almost all the work in the seated position. the cabel hip abduction exercise works the gluteus medius very well. (video below).

Just to brag and perhaps make you a little jealous, I can do 295 (full stack) for 3 sets of 8. My wife can do 295 for sets of 4 reps. Knowing your woman can force a submission by cracking you open by a grapevine is quite exhilarating. Makes the wrestling very exciting. OTOH, happens to her too.
