So did anyone watch Invicta 15 tonight? I thought it was a great card, even if it was only seven fights. All of them were worthwhile but since Megan Anderson seems to be of interest around here, I'll just talk a bit about that one. Anderson is an amazing physical specimen. Six feet tall, long muscular legs - she's beautiful to watch in the cage. And can she kick. Amber Liebrock is 5'11'' and it was incredible watching a six foot woman throw a high kick at the head of another woman of equal size. Seeing those giant legs unfurl like that was exciting. Anyway, the fight's up on mmacore.com if anyone's interested in seeing it. Look under "Recent Videos".

This is the only pic I could find from the actual fight:

Technically she's in UFC; she's fighting for Invicta with a UFC contract. That's because they were building to the Ronda match at 135. But now with the new rehydration rules Cyborg realizes she can never make 135. And Dana has no reason to make a 145 class because there isn't much competition. Nor does it make any sense to for him to do a catchweight 140 fight, because it neuters the 135 division. So Cyborg is stranded in Elba as far as a UFC fight goes.

Cyborg's fight with Ibragimova was pretty impressive. The Russian girl actually has some skills, and she was able to duck some Cyborg punches and go for wrestling takedowns, which is the only way she could win. Unfortunately she only caught single legs, and never got Cyborg to the canvas. Instead, on one leg, Cyborg punched this girl's head and face as hard as she could, and those punches had impact. Ibragimova doggedly held on to that leg for 4 minutes, but inevitably she had to give it up, and then she lost the slugfest.

That said, this fight was still unfair. Cyborg blew up to 165 after the weigh-in, and she was at least 10 pounds heavier than her opponent. She just takes advantage of the system too much.

That was my point. She's contracted with them, on loan to Invicta but never going to see the inside of a UFC cage. Her best hope is that interest in WMMA continues to grow and a 145 division is eventually added. But it may not come soon enough for the 30-year-old Cyborg as it's almost a sure bet the next division will be 125.

Right. They have plenty of fighters for 125, not many for 145.

I'm wondering if they couldn't create an open weight division though. This might tempt the bigger girls to try the sport. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Lei D'Tapa vs. Gabi Garcia in UFC?

I don't know, if there's any experimenting done it's likely to be done through Invicta. Maybe after Ronda loses again to Holm and the UFC cuts her, she'll go up to 145 and fight Cyborg (joke, joke, joke...only kiddling, people).

BTW, nice to know there's at least one other WMMA fan on this site.
