Great vid. Beautifully timed level change as the guy telegraphed a big swinging right. Text book double leg takedown. ...She got him down and that was that. Dispatched very quickly.

A vid like this shows that it's still the case that wrestling/grappling is still the best base for MMA. I mean, you can go into MMA and have success (to a certain level) just as a grappler. Being a striking specialist is unlikely to get you as far until you start fleshing out your game.

Hmm, ookay.
Depends on the perspective I watch it through.
One view could be that it shows how mastery over one concept (the armbar) allowed her to beat competitors in different situations both in Judo and MMA, despite everyone knowing what she was going to do.
That she managed to repeatedly catch larger and stronger males with it shows how technical she is and the mastery she has over it.

In a way it shows that instead of trying to learn different stuff it seems better to master on a few tools and learn the endless ways in which it can be applied, countered and in turn the counters to it can be countered.

Also the atmosphere during the sparring is interesting as Uriah clearly seemingly tries his best but loses and then struggles to cope with it (jokes about it).
Everybody in that room understands how an armbar works but none of them have the mastery of it like Ronda has.

I agree up to a certain point, altough Ronda took this approach to the extreme up to the point where it was detrimental for her.
She looked for armbars even in situations where she had much more safer and easy options.
In the fight with Holly Holm she had Holly's back, and instead of trying to establish back mount she went for a risky armbar and ended up losing position.
Then we all know how it ended.

It's interesting that you said so, since 95% of the people that I have saw commentating about it (the video was on youtube a while ago) said that he either let her win or that he was going easy.

Ronda her background was Judo and not BJJ. BJJ teaches to clamp on the back and seek the rnc but she was all about transitioning to that rolling juji.
It is riskier compared to backmount but it often paid off for her and got her quick wins over trained competitors.

Her loss to Holly had more to do with lack of lateral footwork and an inability to herd Holm to the cage. Holm was a former boxer and knew how to avoid the wild rushes of Ronda.

Not sure if Uriah went full power however it seemed he technically tried to do the right thing but just got outmatched.
Perhaps he could have circled and pushed her out of the clinch but in sparring against a Judoka he learns the most by clinching with her.
Seems he tries to escape and blockt he armbar but she catches him.

Zaira Dyshekova is the fighter's name. In the comment, some people says that the guy has some mental health problems, but I can't confirm it.

I don't know if this was ever posted here before. Sounds like the guy has no technique, and as far as I could learn, he was a bit of drunk (?). I don't know her name.
