I don't know, I admit his behaviour is pretty awkard, it looks like he is already convinced that he is going to lose and getting embarassed and he want it to end as soon as possible, a defeatist attitude that is surely not going to help him.

To me it looks like he didn't try the first two times but he put a lot of effort the third time and it didn't help him much.
He also seems to have well-below average physical intelligence, motor skills and reaction time (ie. an overall very unathletic guy, the typical person who sucks at every sport) which probably make it seems like he is trying less hard than he really is.
