Tip For 'Print Screen' Failure
Just a quick note for anybody else who's suffering the same problem (especially on a PC).
There was an unexpected Windows Update last night and, as a result, the PrtScn key failed to work this morning. Members who follow my threads will know I need this function daily, using it to capture the tens of thousands of DVD screenshots I've uploaded to the Forum (so far). Without it I have no purpose here! Well, after spending an hour tracing and testing suggested solutions online, this is the one that worked: 1. Right-Click in OneDrive, and select Settings 2. Choose Backup from the drop-down 3. Uncheck 'Automatically save screenshots...', then hit OK at the bottom 4. Repeat steps 1-3, but this time Check the same box so that the tick returns Effectively, your system is back to exactly where it started. But, mysteriously, the problem is resolved - as proved by the example I've just captured to demonstrate (below). Hope this helps anybody in need. Sorry for troubling the rest of you. |

Re: Tip For 'Print Screen' Failure
Yes, I'm back. Again I don't know if anyone else is (or will be) affected by this latest - and pointless/irritating - Windows Update. But I'm here to help if I can. Follow last night's restart, I've been unable to capture DVD Screenshots - my life blood on this Forum. The problem is that, now by default:
Pressing the Print Screen key no longer captures an image of my screen. Instead, it opens the Snipping Tool automatically, which darkens the whole screen and opens a useless bunch of editing options in a bar at the top. It's a bloody nuisance but, after an hour of searching, I've finally found out how to put things back how they were. Having said that, it's complicated. And nobody else seemed to be bothered about the problem that opened this thread. So I'll wait until somebody jumps in with the same problem before trying to explain it all. If you do need help with this, please write here rather than by PM. The Forum threads themselves have greater functionality than the messaging system. [Edit: Hey look below - Just to prove I'm not imagining it!!!] Last edited by verscont; 28-Jun-23 at 11:26. |

I love Microsoft’s periodic free downgrades.

Re: Tip For 'Print Screen' Failure
I switched to Linux recently and was shocked at how much nicer it is for regular use than what Windows has become. I feel like in the past Linux was always the OS that was much more stable and secure, but Windows was just much less of a pain in the ass. There's maybe a little bit of a learning curve now, but honestly, if you never want to use the terminal and just use the graphical interfaces and package manager, you can. Plus when I hit print screen, it just takes a screen shot of my display cause why on earth would you want it to do anything else?
