Default Video Trimming Help Required.

Can any member recommend a free video trimming program. I wish to cut out portions of videos to play by themselves. I've had limited success with VLC ( using the red button in the advanced mode ), but although it trims the video OK, the audio track on the trimmed video is always missing. I've also tried "Sothink Video Converter", but can't get it to trim any video. In addition, I've tried "Any Video Converter", but no luck. All these programs easily convert one video format into another, but they don't seem to want to trim. Any ideas, fellas.

Dear bonnie4444,

You can download Windows Movie Maker and do all those things. You can trim the beginnings or ends or cut the video into any number of shorter videos. I sometimes use it on uncomplicated video releases.

Windows Movie Maker seems to work pretty good for me when I do my YouTube vlog.

I've also had great success with Windows Movie Maker. Pretty easy to use as well. Good luck.

Thanks to those who suggested Windows Movie Maker, however the following problem was encountered. WMM did exactly what you said it would do----it successfully trimmed my video and retained the sound. However, the resulting trimmed clips were in some wierd format called .wlmp files, which would only play in Windows Movie Maker. They could NOT be converted to mp4, avi or wmv because all the conversion programs that I tried could not even see the .wlmp file. Further research established that .wlmp is not even a proper file. It is a project by Microsoft specifically for the Movie Maker. Does anyone have any further ideas on this problem ?

You have to "Save Movie" to export to a playable format as opposed to "Save Project". Which version of WMM are you using? There should be plenty of guides to walk you through the best settings to do what you want, but they may look different depending on your version.

In what format is encoded your video ?

If it's an odd format or something pretty hard to read (like .mkv) you can give up on free soft like movie maker. They are easy to use but are very limited in return.
If you would like to make some small editing work you can use DavinCi resolve light. At first it looks like a scary soft but it's actually very intuitive. It's a very powerful soft and after some hours on it you'll do anything you want.

Otherwise I can do it for you if you want
